What is this workshop about?
This online workshop is excellent for anyone wanting to write fiction, particularly middle grade, young adult, new adult, or adult. All other forms of aspiring fiction writers (such as those wishing to write picture books) might not find this workshop helpful.
During the duration of the workshop, we'll be using the workbook, A Wordy Woman's Guide for Writing a Book, as a guide. You will receive a complimentary digital copy of the workbook ahead of time. What topics will we cover?
During the duration of the workshop, we'll be using the workbook, A Wordy Woman's Guide for Writing a Book, as a guide. You will receive a complimentary digital copy of the workbook ahead of time. What topics will we cover?
- Picking a genre and category (first 10 minutes of workshop)
- Estimating the length of your book (10 minutes)
- Understanding point of view (10 minutes)
- Choosing an age for your protagonist (10 minutes)
- Understanding your main characters and the motivations behind their actions (10 minutes)
- Determining the inciting incident (10 minutes)
- Brainstorming your main plot (15 minutes) *There's a short video for this one!
- Analyzing stakes (10 minutes)
- Chapter outline overview (10 minutes)
- Deciding daily writing goals (last 5 minutes of workshop)
Who is leading the workshop?

Dawn Husted is the author of five books worldwide. As an editor and writer, she believes words are a powerful tool!
With 10 years writing books and 5 years publishing them, she progressed into offering her services to clients in 2016, eventually opening Yaupon Berry Press LLC.
As an author, she was a panelist for Teen BookFest by the Bay V, allowing her the opportunity to showcase her books to hundreds of Corpus Christi students. Later that same year, she was elected to serve on the Board of Governors for the Editorial Freelancers Association. A member of SCBWI, she attends monthly meetings, always learning and staying current in today’s literary industry.
Dawn holds a BS from Texas A&M University. When not working on the computer, she’s either camping or dreaming about camping. Dawn lives in central Texas with her husband, two energetic kids, and an adorable golden retriever.
